My Dear Friends,

Last Tuesday it was announced from the Vatican that Bp Alan Hopes is to be the new Bishop of East Anglia. This news, though not totally unexpected, was both a cause for joy and a cause for sadness.

Naturally I was thrilled that Bishop Alan should receive this well deserved promotion, but also very sad at our loss. For Bishop Alan has been a devoted and deeply pastoral Bishop to our community and we will miss his gentle and prayerful presence. It was here that Bishop Alan administered the Sacrament of Confirmation for the first time after his Ordination, and I can well remember how relieved he was that it was to be in a community where he knew he was much loved.

Such moves, though as I say not unexpected, remind us that all those who Ordained to serve the Church are under obedience and when sentÉÉ. we must go!

Our loss is East Anglia's gain - let us hold Bp Alan in our prayers at this exciting time, and wish him well as he takes up this new challenge.

God Bless.
