My Dear Friends,

As Catholics, when we think of pilgrimage, one of the first places that springs to mind is Lourdes. Many of you have visited the shrine in the past and many will do so again.

However the whole area has recently been devastated by horrendous floods, the worst since 1937, and the damage is almost beyond belief. But with the help of the army and many, many volunteers some semblance of normality has been restored. A number of the regular sites of worship are still covered by debris and mud, but the Grotto is again welcoming pilgrims and the witness of prayer and praise continues - thanks be to God!

Apart from the emotional cost there is also an immense financial one! No formal collection will be taken up, but if you are moved to help please take an appeal envelope from the porch and return it as soon as possible. Archbishop Vincent will add our gifts to those of the Diocese and will hand them over to the Shrine when he is there later this month.

Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and support for this - the premier shrine of our Lady in our Catholic world.

God Bless.
