"The Temptation of Christ"

JESUS IS LORD

Today we praise God for the marvellous things he did for
our fathers, with his mighty hand and outstretched arm.
What he did for them he still does for us, in Jesus the Lord
who conquered sin and death.

My Dear Friends,

All of us, I am quite sure, were deeply shocked and dismayed by the announcement of our Holy Father's resignation. And it comes as no surprise that there has been endless speculation as to what is really going on!! But there is no mystery, but rather just extraordinary courage and selflessness. His decision to step down is a brave one and shows just how humble a man he truly is; and if you happened to see His Holiness on television on Ash Wednesday you will, like me, have been shocked at just how frail he has become.

So let us keep Pope Benedict in our prayers, with great affection and the highest esteem for his ministry as our Holy Father, and let us pray too, for the Church and all that must take place in the next weeks, and entrust ourselves to the loving Providence of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Last Wednesday we began the season of Lent, and now we journey on towards the 'greatest week' of the Christian year. Traditionally we focus on fasting, penance and almsgiving, and the "Family Fast Day" this Friday, allows us to combine all three. So be sure to take a Fast Day envelope home with you and return it next weekend.

Finally do consider what you can do to grow in faith during this Lenten season. A weekday celebration of Mass, Stations of the Cross, Adoration, Lent Study, private prayer and meditation. Truly let us sanctify these 40 days so that we may be more worthy to celebrate the victory of the resurrection.

God Bless.
