My Dear Friends,

We now enter the most important week of the Christian year. These holy days allow us to draw closer to our Lord as he goes up to Jerusalem to suffer and to die for our sins. We can never be worthy of His sacrifice, but at least we can journey with Christ from the Upper Room to Calvary, and then on to the glory of the Easter morn!

May I remind everyone that our Mass on Tuesday is at 9.30 am to allow those who wish to get to the cathedral for the Mass of the Chrism to do so. At the Chrism Mass, which is the largest annual gathering of diocesan clergy, the priests renew the vows they made at their ordination. The Mass takes its name from the most eminent of the three holy oils, which the bishop commissions for the church's use. Whilst the Oil of the Sick and the Oil of the Catechumens, which is used at Baptism, are simply "blessed," the Sacred Chrism is "consecrated," and all the priests present participate in this moment by extending their hands in prayer as the bishop says the prayer of consecration.

The Chrism Mass also provides an opportunity to the faithful of the diocese to show support for their priests. All are welcome!

God Bless.
