The Year of Faith

THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
The Blood Of The Covenant
The old covenant was sealed with the blood of the sacrifice,
which Moses sprinkled on the people. The new covenant
was sealed with the blood of Christ who offered
himself as a perfect sacrifice to God.

My Dear Friends,

Over the last few years we have worked very hard as a Christian community, to make our parish warm, welcoming and inclusive; and I believe we have made this happen, for our welcome and warmth is often commented on by visitors. So you may well imagine my real disappointment and distress at a letter I received on my return home.

A family, who have made their spiritual home here at St Gregory the Great, were so upset by abuse that was meted out to them whilst they were in church, which they believe to have been racially motivated, that they felt they must write to me about it.

Whatever the cause of this upset, such behaviour is dreadful, disgraceful and shames us all.

In the difficult racial climate that exists in too many places in our society today we must be seen to be a "beacon of Christ's light set on a hill for all to see" and furthermore I would hope that anyone witnessing such a scene would bring it to my attention, as this courageous family have done.

This is a sad situation, which I feel sure will not occur again. Let us work all the harder to be a witness of Christ's love to all, regardless of colour or creed.

God Bless.
